OE Heroes: Streamlining Cashless Payments with eColl2.0
To facilitate a phased return to campus by the University community, we have introduced eCollections 2.0 eColl2.0, an innovative payment gateway that integrates internal applications with external payment channels ensuring secure and hassle-free transactions through various mobile payment options like major credit cards, PayNow, and AliPay.
For students, this integration means seamless transactions for common payments such as tuition fees, hostel charges, and library costs. In addition to the existing NUSFastPay service, eColl2.0 offers an enhanced user experience by providing a unified payment page with consistent design that eliminates the need for departments to develop their own payment pages.
Monica Darmawan, Project Lead and Systems Analyst at NUS IT highlights that this innovative solution significantly reduces administrative tasks related to processing payments. eColl2.0 automates transaction reporting from department applications, says Monica. It also streamlines the reconciliation process saving considerable time and effort.
The eColl2.0 service provides scalability by offering fast implementation during onboarding processes, which reduces technical overheads required for such systems. Lim Hui Zhen, Co-Project Lead and Senior Manager at the Office of Finance explns how digital collections have transformed traditional methods that previously involved handling cash and cheques - Now we manage banking reconciliations digitally, she says. This also eliminates the need to manually identify payments by scanning bank statements.
Currently, over 61 NUS applications across various departments including University faculties, schools, and units are leveraging eColl2.0 for their collection processes. For example, the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy has merged its online executive education and event registration systems with eColl2.0 while the University Health Centre integrates the payment page into eColl2.0 to streamline pre-admission medical examinations fee collections.
As we continue embracing technology in our operations under the Smart Nation initiative, new digital payment methods are being introduced as part of future phases for eColl2.0. These enhancements will provide more payment options and greater accessibility while moving away from traditional on-campus cash transactions.
OE Operational Excellence is a strategic effort by NUS to improve administrative processes, policies, talent development opportunities, and growth prospects through best practice implementation.
