This is only marginally higher than during the aftermath of the 2008 financial crisis. Notably, young people, individuals with lower levels of education, and those experiencing financial insecurity or feeling disconnected from political processes were more likely to express a lack of trust in government.

Reinventing Public Participation for Resilience

Governments should explore innovative ways beyond traditionalof participation and representation, such as community-led initiatives, digital platforms, and participatory budgeting processes. These mechanisms will enhance agility during crisis management.

Women in Leadership: A Persistent Gap

While women represent a larger share 58.9 of the public sector workforce, there is still considerable room to ensure equal representation at senior levels of government and in leadership roles. Progress towards ger parity requires concerted efforts to address barriers that prevent women from reaching top positions.

The Climate Challenge for Governments

Decision-making processes can play a crucial role in combating climate change. Green budgeting, which integrates environmental considerations into fiscal policies, could be implemented more effectively by engaging civil society and parliaments as key stakeholders.

Strengthening Integrity Standards in the Digital Age

Standards governing lobbying activities, political finance, and conflict of interest are essential for mntning democratic integrity; however, they often fall short of being fully enforced. Enhancing oversight mechanisms and promoting transparency can help ensure these rules are respected across OECD countries.
