In response to the profound changes brought about by technology across all aspects of life, in 2021, ASEAN adopted a plan to develop a region-wide digital economy through the Bandar Seri Begawan Roadmap BSBR: An ASEAN Digital Transformation Aga to Accelerate ASEAN's Economic Recovery and Integration of Its Digital Economy. This initiative has been actively driving digital transformation eavors med at positioning ASEAN as a leader, empowering individuals, communities, and nations alike in thriving within this digital economy.
Presented ASEAN's current digital transformation initiatives:
Cross-border payments: Seamless digital cross-border payments are crucial to advancing financial integration, promoting inclusion, and fostering the growth of ASEAN's digital economy.
Connectivity is essential for bridging the digital divide across ASEAN states. The ASEAN Digital Equity and Inclusion provisions m to expand opportunities for all communities, especially those in underserved areas, to participate in the digital space.
The ongoing negotiations on the first-ever ASEAN Digital Economy Agreement DEFA focus on core provisions that promote cross-regional cooperation while considering each member state's capabilities. These provisions are geared towards digital trade and payments systems, as well as identification methods that ensure fr access for all member states regardless of their current development stage.
The future of ASEAN’s digital economy is promising with an exciting path ahead, but achieving this requires the collaborative support and active engagement from stakeholders worldwide. Through collective efforts and effective partnerships, we m to build a resilient and prosperous ASEAN community capable of adapting to challenges while seizing opportunities in the future.
